I Love Weeds… said no one ever.
Ok, there are some like dandelions, clover and plantain that we love to have around. But, I’m talking WEEDS! I have my share of horror stories. How about our Horse Nettle or our Kudzu? These particular weeds are out of control on our farm and the only solves we have for them are fire and llamas sheep. Respectively. BUT for those other weeds… the ones in my garden that make me tear my hair out ~ well, those I may actually be able to control. Kinda.
Noxious Weed: a weed which is considered to be harmful to the environment or animals, especially one which may be the subject of regulations governing attempts to control it. ~google dictionary

Karen from our Facebook group posted a homemade weed killer recipe that uses, among other things, vinegar. Since we all know that everything on the internet is true I just jumped in and tried it. LOL! Okay, we know that’s not so, but I have used straight white vinegar for weed killing in Wisconsin, although that was just for the grass growing between the cracks in the cement. I hated trying to pull those suckers out. They gripped like they were barnacles on a ship or something! I even broke out the pliers and couldn’t get them to budge. Then I read that vinegar would kill them so I doused the barnacle weeds (they deserve that name) and they browned up real nice while loosening their grip.

Karen’s post uses other ingredients along with vinegar so I figured I’d test it out. Here’s how my trial went and, if you’d like to get rid of your barnacle weeds, the recipe is below:
Don’t forget the recipe below!
Great way to rid yourself of pesky weeds in the garden.
- 2 gallons white vinegar
- 3 cups epsom salts
- 4 tbsp dish soap
-
Add all the ingredients to your sprayer. Be SURE to stir your salt until it is DILUTED!!
-
Spray on weeds and at the base of weeds.
-
If you don't use all the weed killer, pour back into the vinegar bottles or another recepticle. Do NOT leave this in your sprayer! It could rust some metal parts on your sprayer. Better safe than sorry.
-
If you have frogs or toads in your garden and you want them to stay, don't this around them. It stings the bottom of their feet.

Have you had success with a homemade weed killer?
