Hello. My name is Niki. I’m a suburban gal who has been inching her way (along with my trusty partner Mr. Bluejeans) to our rural life. We’re almost there! One more skillfully planned (ha!) move and voilà…Rural Bliss. Or so we think.
How did this come about? What happened to this endeavorous gal who worked full time in the work-a-day world? A realization that I was not getting any closer to my cowboy boot wearing, horse owning, cob pizza oven building, cabin living, livestock loving, garden growing, bread baking princess self.
I’ve always been obsessed with all things crafty and have been on-board the handmade revolution since my grand-mère (I’m half french, merci) first taught me how to embroider. I was five. She didn’t stop there, oh no clever lady! Crocheting, gardening, preserving and canning, painting, sewing, ceramics and cooking were all pursued with vigor. Grams lived with us so it was a constant education.
Visions of farm life and horses danced in my head as a youngster. I had finally irritated…err…. convinced my parents to get me a horse but they pulled off a fabulous coup by offering me a “choice”. I could have a horse – that I would have to take care of on my own (meaning walk the 3 miles to the stable and back) OR I could have a brand new shiny 10 speed. Well, my 10 year old self sold out right then and there and decided the bike was just what I wanted. Brilliant parents really.
Fast forward to my life now where my truly patient and adoring partner Mr. Bluejeans has given me my wings. He told me to quit my job after our first move (we’ve had several) and figure out what I wanted to do.
Oh my.
I’ve DIY’d (before it was cool) and can screw up drywall and lay tile with the best of ’em. I painted, created ceramics, grew a garden, and cooked my heart out…then…I….bought a sewing machine. It was love at first stitch. We are inseparable. I am practically intolerable if I can’t sew a bit each day (a bit = 8 hours). I fell in love and I fell hard. During this time we had several moves. Across the nation. Looking for our bliss and making fabric stores wherever we lived very happy and a bit richer for the experience. Curious? You’ll find some of my handmade items in our store 🙂
Now we are beginning our journey on our dream farm. We purchased 60 raw acres and are ready to start our homestead! Do we know what we are doing? Well. No. But that won’t stop us! And that’s where we begin – you and I. A new beginning and lots of learning together. Sharing this all with you via the blog has been a surprise journey that I am so grateful for. So, here we are…the BIG dream, horses and all. No 10 speed this time! It’s horses all the way…
Thanks for joining us, now let’s start our Rustic Revival™ ♥
