Simple to make and SO flavorful this homemade onion dip mix will be sure to get your party started!
I have been a lover of onion dip since I was a kid. Sweets were never my thing. Give me savory any day! So when I came home from school one day and found we had no packaged dip mix I discovered I could make my own with a few ingredients we had in the cupboard.

You can make this simple dip mix too! I used my dehydrator and even made my own onion flakes… how’s that for DIY? Check out the video to see how simple this recipe is then have some fun and play with other ingredients. How about caramelizing some fresh onions and popping those in? The sky is the limit!

Tastes just like those package mixes but you control the ingredients!
- 1/3 cup dehydrated onions or onion flakes
- 7 tbsp beef bouillon or 21 cubes crushed
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
-
If you are using your own dehdrated onions, pulse them in your food processor until you reach a consistency you like.
-
Put onion flakes into a bowl and add beef boullion. If you are using cubes be sure to crush them into a powdery consistency.
-
Add onion and garlic powder along with paprika to bowl.
-
Give a good mix.
-
Use 5 tablespoons of mix for 16 ounces of sour cream. Of course you can use more or less mix depending on your taste. Be sure to refrigerate the dip for at least an hour before serving. If you can wait that long!
-
Or use your foodsaver vacuum system to package this delicious mix for later use. You can also keep in a plastic bag or container in a dark, cool place.
Did you ever create a recipe as a kid that you still use today?
