Why toss your lettuce when you can regrow more? Here’s an easy way to stretch your budget and even provide a fun learning experience for the kids! Let’s regrow some lettuce!

Why toss veggies when they can do double duty?!!! Let’s learn how to regrow lettuce!
Mr. Bluejeans gifted me with a wonderful book all about REGROWING your veggies! Well, we are sure to compost or feed most of our leftovers to the livestock but to try and get more out of them? This was a challenge that I just had to take. Here is my first attempt at regrowing romaine lettuce:
I believe I’ve caught the bug. The lettuce bug. Planning to test more of these regrow techniques and show you if they do or don’t work! As I ponder what this could mean (as a time saver and budget buster) it also makes me wonder if I should dedicate one or two raised beds to this project.
Sort of a chicken grow garden where I could plant all these regrowables and use that dedicated area just for the birds. Not sure yet but the idea is bouncing around in my head.

This years garden will have LOTS of lettuce (we love our salads) and I was sure to purchase some romaine seeds from Johnny Seeds so I can keep recycling our lettuce. I chose Winter Density because we really missed salads in the winter. It’s only about 8″ tall but that makes sense since it’s a winter seed. This will be a new variety for our farm but it’s an old variety that’s fast growing (only 44 days!) and slow bolting. For a new gardener like myself, I’m learning that fast growing and slow bolting are things to look for. I’m also learning that once I find a variety of vegetable I can grow easily… keep planting it! I learned that when we grew Candy Squash.
. So the recycled lettuce project begins. From seed to infinity!!
Have you ever regrown your veggies?
