We have finally made it to our 10 day countdown! Strike up the band! Wanted to share a few thoughts with you before we jump into this new adventure.
Leaving 5 Dog Farm North for our permanent stay at 5 Dog Farm South has been a whirlwind, both of emotions and work. There’s still things to finish up here and so many things to do to establish 5 Dog Farm South that I can’t even begin to list them!
You know when you take on a big project or have a life changing event or you know your universe is about to change and if you’re like me, you feel a bit….overwhelmed? I’ve discovered I have none of those overwhelmed feelings for our “life will never be the same” move. It’s like love at first sight – it just feels right. We are raring to go! Of course we are aware of the oodles or work ahead of us but every shovel of dirt, every chopped tree or seed planted is for us as a family. It’s daunting but real.
I think as a culture we’ve lost real to the medias version of “reality” but those realities we see on social media and TV are no more real than margarine is to butter. Gack! Seems perfect is getting confused with real.
Yes, there will be many times during this adventure that the old overwhelmed feeling will try to make it’s way back into my thoughts but I’ve learned a few things in life and letting go has been the hardest. Letting go of trying for perfect is at the top of my list and it seems it’s working! If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try to find your own real. Whether it’s checking out of social media for a bit or sitting on your porch watching the world go by, quiet your mind and tune into you.
Wow, am I sounding like a hippy or what?! LOL! Next I’ll be saying things like “Far Out” or “Groovy”. Sheesh.
I’ll give you a hint to jump start your walk towards shedding that overwhelmed feeling: there. is. no. perfect. You know that don’t you. We forget to remind ourselves of that. We aren’t perfect. There’s not always a perfect time or perfect answer or perfect moment to start something. Celebrate the imperfections and learn from the mistakes. We have to make them!
Our quest for real came shortly after we blended our families. Our life at that time was a constant hustle to maintain the house, cars and useless stuff that we thought was real.
Nope. It didn’t feel right.
We had an epiphany of sorts while living (and paying for) the “dream” – that it was certainly not a dream and both of us had always envisioned a more agrarian lifestyle. Come to find out we wholeheartedly agreed that: gardens, crickets, horses, shovels and downsizing is our real. So we hatched our plan to achieve our goal. Namely, get land. Check! This isn’t to say that a house in the burbs or a downtown apartment isn’t real. It’s a perfect lifestyle for many folks but remember we are talking about finding your personal real. Homesteading is ours.
Oh, you caught that part where I mentioned downsizing did you? Clever bunch.

no. this isn’t quite the downsizing i mean! ha ha
Over the next few months, after we establish our driveway and workshop our plans are to share with you our not so typical choice in abodes.
no. this isn’t quite the downsizing i mean ha haBut you didn’t expect typical from us…did you? I know you’re shaking your head NO! 😉
So the countdown is on, we’re set to begin this homesteading journey with you. It won’t be perfect and I’ll probably always be working on keeping those nasty overwhelmed feelings away but they are lessened by my acceptance of life just being a beautiful mess and I just know it’s gonna be…groovy.
