For this Farm on the Fly update… I have a surprise. I’ve included a quick video of the wacky things that can happen on a homestead when you least expect it!
Sky Lift: A big machine with lots of toggles and dials which has a bucket on it to lift you skywards. Not ideal for those with fear of heights.
So there I was, minding my own business scurrying about the farm with a hub of activity going on around me. Then Jamie came home and said there was a BIG rig stopped just past our driveway and holding up traffic. She was able to squeeze into our turn-in so I didn’t think much of it. See, our local internet company is busy redoing all the lines here so that we can enjoy fiber optic speed by the end of this summer. Imagine! We are out in the boonies but will have scorching fast internet. Go figure.
When Jamie left that day to go back to work, she messaged me. There was a BIG GREEN machine blocking our drive. Hmmmm. Seems our builder neglected to tell us to expect a giant grasshopper delivery. Eric, our intrepid foundation guy, was here that day and getting ready to hitch his dump truck up to his trailer to haul his bobcat to another job and there was no way he could squeeze by. “No worries” I thought. I’d just call our contractor and someone could come move it. Uh huh. If we had 2.5 hours to wait.
We did not.
So I did what any self respecting homestead lady would do. I decided to learn to drive a giant grasshopper, because, why not?! Plus, I’d move heaven and earth for Eric. I called our contractor’s apprentice and with his help the beast moved. Real. Slow. But that was ok because when this thing heads down hill, the person in the bucket rises. When I experience anything that’s not on terra firma my knees tend to go weak. Sears Tower in Chicago anyone? Jelly knees. The grasshopper was no different BUT it WAS fun!
So much fun that I wanted to shift out of snail into turtle speed! Sadly, I couldn’t get it to do that and with the sun setting quickly I just inched my way down our 1/2 mile driveway to park the beast and rescue Eric.
All in a day of a Homestead Lady.
Don’t believe it? Check out the quick video I made while maneuvering the Sky Lift down the driveway. I wouldn’t leave you out of the fun!
Oh but your resume, how it grows! And you looked like a pro! ❤️
LOL! Yes construction worker – check. Perhaps we could start an all girl version of The Village People! 😀
