Is it something like Puppy Chow Mix? That really tasty ‘you’re gonna hate me for telling you about it’ snack mix? No. Except maybe that Teddy Bear Mixes are very sweet. Ya know, sugar and spice and all that jazz.
A Teddy Bear Mix is a dog which is a cross breed of a Bichon Frise and a Shih Tsu.
In other words: A giant amount of attitude wrapped in a cute little bundle.

Meet our little bundle of attitude Bijoux
According to Dictionary.com Bijoux (bee-zhoo) is:
- something small, delicate and exquisitely wrought
According to our friends in France, Bijoux means gem or jewel.
Yup, she is our little gem. She can do NO wrong in Mr. Bluejeans eyes. Mind you she does plenty but none of it is wrong in his eyes. Nada.
Do you own one of those dogs that has a stronger connection with one family member than the other? Yes, Bijoux loves her Mommy but her Daddy is the apple of her eye and visa versa.

Hard to believe this face has so much attitude
She’s quite attached to him. Mr. Bluejeans travels for work and we cringe when he brings out his suitcase to pack. We know what’s coming… she reacts the minute she sees it. Pouting ensues (really), jumping into the luggage or my personal favorite – turning her back to her Dad and not responding when he calls her name. He’s been put on notice: BIJOUX ISN’T HAPPY AND YOU’RE GONNA PAY.
Yes, attitude. With a side helping of guilt.

Hey Mom, be sure to capture my best side
Out of all our dogs Bijoux is the hands down smartest. DON’T TELL THEM I SAID THAT!
Here’s another example: at night I will tell the pups “It’s bedtime”! Bijoux and Max had a healthy competition running upstairs trying to beat one another to the top of the staircase (no stairs in our current living situation – a camper). Cute right?
Uh huh.
Bijoux stacks the deck by what I lovingly call “LINEBACKERING” her opponent. For those of you unfamiliar with a word I made up, linebackering is when she body slams herself into the poor pup who may have a chance of say… beating her up the stairs. Which is usually our Bolognese Max.
RUN **WHAM** Sorry Max ~ You lose.
But where she really blows my mind is when I call “bedtime” and say “Bijoux, bathroom” or “Bijoux, guest room”. She darts into the room I called out instead.
Ya. I know. I’m amazed every time.

Bijoux out shopping with her mom and sister. She bought us Starbucks.
I swear if her legs were long enough she’d be capable of driving a car. But I’d be concerned about some negative paw action due to that Teddy Bear attitude. And of course I’m sure she’d attempt to linebacker with a car too. Yes, we are those crazy people who joke about our pups being in human situations. You’ll have to deal with it. I can guarantee we will feel the same about our future horses, chickens and other “pet like” animals.
All kidding aside Teddy Bear dogs are fantastic companion pets. If I had to pick just two adjectives to describe a Teddy Bear, I’d say:
You are their BESTEST friend…ever. You’ll know this by the fact that a Teddy Bear will rarely be 5 feet away from you. At. All. Times.
They are a rough and tumble breed [[refer to linebackering above]] and non-shedding *insert angels singing* which with five dogs DOES make a difference in my housekeeping.
So if your looking for a cute bundle of attitude that knows how to linebacker and hates suitcases… a Teddy Bear Mix is just what you need!
